Type a fraction as 3/4, a mixed number as 1 1/2 (a space between the whole number and the fraction), a whole number as 5, or a decimal as 0.75. Use a minus sign for negatives, for example -2/3.
How to use the fraction calculator
- Pick a mode: arithmetic, simplify, or decimal to fraction.
- Type your fractions. Mixed numbers need a space, as in 2 3/4.
- Choose the operation. The answer updates as you type.
- Read the answer in lowest terms, as a mixed number, as a decimal and as a percent. The working shows each step.

Frequently asked questions
How do I enter a mixed number?
Type the whole number, a space, then the fraction: 2 3/4. The tool reads it as 11/4. For a negative mixed number put the minus sign first: -2 3/4.
What does the bracket in the decimal mean?
The digits inside the brackets repeat forever. 1/3 is 0.(3), which means 0.333 and so on. 1/6 is 0.1(6), which means 0.1666 and so on.
What is an improper fraction?
A fraction whose top is bigger than its bottom, such as 13/6. It is the same value as the mixed number 2 1/6. The calculator shows both.
Why is my answer a whole number?
When the bottom divides the top exactly, the fraction is a whole number. For example 24/4 is 6.
Can it convert a repeating decimal like 0.333?
It converts the digits you type exactly, so 0.333 becomes 333/1000. One third is 1/3, which you can check in the arithmetic tab.
