Hosting Checker: Find Who Hosts Any Website

Enter a domain to see which company runs its server, which network the IP address belongs to, and who provides its DNS and email. The checker also tells you when a CDN such as Cloudflare hides the real host.

How the hosting checker works

  1. Find the server address. The tool looks up the domain's A (IPv4) and AAAA (IPv6) records, and the www name as well.
  2. Find the network. Every IP address belongs to a network with an autonomous system number (ASN) registered to a company, such as Hostinger, Amazon or Cloudflare. The tool reads this from Team Cymru's public IP-to-ASN service.
  3. Read the reverse DNS name. Many hosts name their servers after themselves, for example …hstgr.cloud or …amazonaws.com.
  4. Look for platform clues. CNAME targets and well-known addresses reveal platforms such as Shopify, Wix, Vercel, Netlify or GitHub Pages.
  5. Check DNS and email. Name servers show the DNS provider; MX records show the email provider. These often match the web host and help when a CDN hides the server.

Why the result may say “behind a CDN”

Services such as Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai and Sucuri sit in front of a website. Visitors, and this tool, only see the CDN's IP address, so the real server stays hidden. That is deliberate: it protects the server from attacks. In that case the checker shows the CDN and uses the name servers, mail servers and other clues to suggest the likely host, with a lower confidence level. Only the site owner can confirm the real host.

What each field means

FieldMeaning
Likely hostThe company that most probably runs the web server, with a confidence level.
IP addressThe address the domain points to. A site can have several.
ASN and networkThe network that announces the IP address on the internet, and the company registered for it.
Registered countryThe country on the network's registration. The server itself can be in a different country.
Reverse DNSThe host name set for the IP address by its owner. Often reveals the host.
DNS providerWho runs the domain's name servers. It can differ from the web host.
Email providerWho receives email for the domain, from its MX records.

Common uses

  • Find a competitor's or a client's web host before a migration or a quote.
  • Check that a domain points to your new host after you move a site.
  • Find where to report abuse, spam or a phishing page (the network owner).
  • Confirm that Cloudflare or another CDN is active in front of your site.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a hosting checker?

When a site points straight at its server, the network owner is almost always the host or the cloud it runs on, so the result is reliable. Two cases are less certain: sites behind a CDN, and managed hosts that rent servers from a large cloud (for example a WordPress host running on Google Cloud). The confidence label tells you which case applies.

Why does it show Amazon or Google instead of my hosting company?

Many hosting companies rent their servers from Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure. The IP address then belongs to the cloud. The checker looks at name servers, mail servers and reverse DNS to name the hosting company when it can.

Can I find the real server behind Cloudflare?

Not with public DNS. Cloudflare hides the origin server on purpose. Old DNS history or a mail server on the same machine can sometimes give it away, which is why site owners should keep the origin IP private.

Is the registered country the server's location?

No. It is the country on the network's registration. A company registered in Cyprus or the United States can run servers in India, Europe or anywhere else.

Does the tool show the hosting plan or account owner?

No. Public DNS and network data do not include plan details or customer names. For domain ownership, use a WHOIS or RDAP lookup at the registry.

Do you store the domains I check?

No. Your browser sends the DNS queries directly to Google Public DNS over HTTPS, including the ASN lookups. Our server is not involved, and we keep no list of checked domains.

About this tool. The checker combines public DNS records (Google Public DNS over HTTPS), Team Cymru's IP-to-ASN mapping and a list of well-known platform addresses and host names. We tested it on sites hosted directly on shared hosting, on large clouds, behind Cloudflare and on platforms such as GitHub Pages, and on domains with only IPv6, with a www CNAME, and with no website at all. The result is an informed estimate from public data, not a statement from the host.
