How to use the time duration calculator
- Between dates & times: enter a start and an end date and time. You get the duration in days, hours and minutes, in years, months and days, and as total hours, minutes and seconds.
- Hours worked: enter the start and end time of each shift and any unpaid break in minutes. The calculator adds up all rows and shows the total in hours and minutes and in decimal hours for timesheets and payroll.
- Working days: pick two dates and your weekly off days, and add public holidays. It counts the business days in between.
- Add or subtract time: start from a date and add or subtract years, months, weeks, days, hours or minutes, for example to find a date 90 days from today.
How the time duration is calculated
The calculator turns both dates and times into minutes and takes the difference. It counts leap years and the real length of each month.
Total hours = total minutes ÷ 60 · Total days = total hours ÷ 24
For hours worked, a shift that ends earlier on the clock than it starts (for example 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM) is treated as ending the next day. Decimal hours are minutes ÷ 60: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours.

Counting working days in India
Many offices in India work five days a week, while banks, factories, shops and many government offices have a six-day week or alternate Saturdays off. Choose the weekly off days that match your workplace, then add the public holidays declared for your state, because the list of holidays differs from state to state and from employer to employer.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the time between two dates and times?
Enter the start date and time and the end date and time in the first tab. For example, from 31 January 2026, 9:00 AM to 1 March 2026, 8:30 AM is 28 days, 23 hours and 30 minutes, or 695.5 hours.
How do I calculate hours worked across midnight?
Enter the start and end times as they are, for example 22:00 and 06:30. The calculator sees that the end is earlier on the clock and counts it as the next day, giving 8 hours 30 minutes before breaks.
How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60 and add the result to the hours. 8 hours 20 minutes is 8 + 20 ÷ 60 = 8.33 hours.
Is the end date included when counting working days?
By default, yes: from Monday to Friday of the same week gives 5 working days. Untick “Include the end date” if you want to count the days in between only.
How many working days are there in a year?
With Saturday and Sunday off, a year has about 260–262 weekdays, before public holidays. With only Sunday off, it is about 313. Use the working days tab with your own holidays for an exact count.
What date is 90 days from today?
Open the “Add or subtract time” tab: it starts at today’s date with 90 days filled in, and shows the date straight away.
All calculations run in your browser. Dates and times are treated as local clock times, without daylight-saving adjustments.
