    How to compress a PDF

    1. Choose or drop the PDF you want to make smaller.
    2. Pick Recommended, Strong or Light, or choose Target file size and select a limit such as under 200 KB.
    3. For the smallest file, also choose Black and white.
    4. Click Compress PDF and download the smaller file. The result shows the old and new size.

    How this PDF compressor works

Each page is redrawn as an optimised image and saved into a new PDF. This works very well for scanned documents, photos and certificates, which are the usual reason a PDF is too large. With a target size, the tool tries stronger settings until the file fits under your limit while keeping the text readable.

Because pages become images, text in the compressed PDF cannot be selected, searched or copied. Keep your original file, and use the compressed copy for uploading.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a PDF to 200 KB?

Choose Target file size, select “Under 200 KB” and click Compress PDF. If the result is still larger, also choose Black and white.

Why did my PDF not get smaller?

PDFs that contain only typed text are usually already small. Redrawing them as images can make them bigger, so the tool tells you instead of giving you a larger file.

Will the compressed PDF be readable?

Yes. The tool stops before the text becomes unreadable. If your target is very small for a long document, it gives you the smallest readable version and says so.

Can I select text after compressing?

No. Pages are saved as images to make the file small. Keep the original if you need selectable text.

Are my files uploaded to your server?

No. The PDF is opened and processed by JavaScript in your own browser, so the file never leaves your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is this tool free? Do I need to sign up?

Yes, it is completely free and there is no sign-up or watermark. There is no daily limit; very large files are limited only by your device’s memory.

    Can I use a password-protected PDF?

No. Remove the password first (open the PDF with its password and save or print it as a new PDF), then use the tool.
