Barcode Generator: Create Barcodes Online Free

Make a barcode in seconds: Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39, ITF-14, ISBN and more. Type your number, see the barcode straight away, and download it as PNG, SVG or JPG. Need many? Paste a list or make a number series and download them all as a ZIP or print labels. Everything runs in your browser, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Size, colour and text options

Keep dark bars on a light background. Red, yellow or light bars often do not scan.

How to make a barcode

  1. Choose the barcode type. Use Code 128 for your own stock, shipping or file labels. Use EAN-13 only with a number issued to your company for retail products.
  2. Type the text or number. The barcode updates as you type. For EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8 and ITF-14 you can leave out the last digit and the tool adds the correct check digit.
  3. Open Size, colour and text options if you want taller bars, a different size of text or your own caption.
  4. Pick PNG, SVG or JPG and tap Download barcode. For many codes, switch to Bulk barcodes, paste your list or set a number series, then download a ZIP or print labels.

Retail barcodes in India: read this first

A barcode image is easy to make; the number inside it is what matters. Shops, supermarkets and large online marketplaces scan EAN-13 barcodes and look up the number in a product database. That number, called a GTIN, must be unique to your product worldwide.

  • GS1 India is the body that allots company prefixes for EAN-13 numbers in India. Numbers issued through GS1 India usually start with 890.
  • Do not make up an EAN-13 number or copy one from another product. It can clash with a real product and get your listing rejected.
  • Once you have your GS1 numbers, this tool can turn each one into a barcode image for your packaging or labels, including many at once with Bulk barcodes.
  • For your own shop, warehouse or office, you do not need GS1 numbers. Use Code 128 with your own SKU or item codes.

ISBN barcodes for books

In India, ISBNs are issued free of charge by the Raja Rammohun Roy National Agency for ISBN on the official portal isbn.gov.in. Choose ISBN above and type your 13-digit ISBN (hyphens are fine). If you have an old 10-digit ISBN, the tool converts it to the 13-digit form starting with 978 and checks the last digit.

Tips for barcodes that scan first time

  • Contrast: black or dark blue bars on white work best. Avoid red bars, and do not print on shiny or patterned backgrounds.
  • Quiet zone: leave clear space on both sides of the bars. Keep the margin setting at 10 or more if you will place the barcode near other artwork.
  • Size: do not squash the barcode sideways. A retail EAN-13 is usually printed at about 37 × 26 mm. Shrink it only after testing.
  • Print quality: download at 3× or use SVG for print, so the bars stay sharp.
  • Test: scan the printed barcode with a phone scanner app or your shop scanner before printing hundreds.

Frequently asked questions

Is this barcode generator free?

Yes. You can make as many barcodes as you like, single or in bulk, with no sign-up and no watermark. Downloads are your own to use.

Can I use these barcodes on products I sell on Amazon or Flipkart?

The images are standard EAN-13 or UPC-A barcodes, but marketplaces and big retailers check the number, not the picture. Use numbers allotted to your company by GS1 India (or GS1 in your country), then create the images here.

What is a check digit and why did the tool change my number?

EAN, UPC and ITF-14 numbers end with a check digit worked out from the other digits. It lets the scanner spot a misread. If you type the number without it, the tool adds it. If you type a full number whose last digit is wrong, the tool shows the correct digit instead of making a barcode that will fail.

How do I create barcodes in bulk?

Open Bulk barcodes and paste one value per line, for example a column copied from Excel, or choose Number series to make codes like INV-0001 to INV-0500. Up to 1,000 barcodes can be made at once. Download them as a ZIP of PNG or SVG files, or print them on A4 as labels.

Which file type should I download?

PNG works in Word, Excel, Canva and label software. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which suits printing and packaging design. JPG is for programs that accept nothing else; it cannot have a transparent background.

Can I make a QR code here?

This tool makes standard one-dimensional barcodes. For a QR code, use the free QR Code Generator.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The barcodes are drawn in your browser on your own device. Your values are not sent to ToolsRiver or anyone else. The tool only remembers your last settings in your browser so the page opens the same way next time.
