Image Enhancer: Improve Photo Quality Online Free
Make a dull, dark or soft photo look clearer in one click. Auto Enhance fixes brightness, contrast and colour, then sharpens the detail. You can fine-tune every setting, compare before and after, and enlarge the image 2× or 4×. Your photo stays on your device: it is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to enhance a photo
- Drop a photo in the box above, or click it to choose one from your phone or computer.
- Auto Enhance runs straight away. Try Portrait, Vivid, Low light or Document if one suits your photo better.
- Drag the line on the picture to compare before and after. Fine-tune any slider if you want.
- Pick 2× or 4× if you need a bigger picture, choose JPG, PNG or WebP, then tap Download enhanced image.
What each setting does
| Setting | What it changes | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Auto levels and colour balance | Stretches the darkest and brightest tones to full range and gently removes a colour cast | The photo looks flat, grey, yellow or blue |
| Brightness / Shadows | Brightness moves all tones; Shadows lifts only the dark parts | Faces or rooms are too dark but the sky is fine |
| Contrast | Makes darks darker and lights lighter | The picture looks washed out or hazy |
| Colour / Warmth | Colour makes hues stronger (less on skin-like, already strong colours); Warmth adds orange or blue | Colours look dull, or light was too cold or too warm |
| Sharpen | Adds contrast along edges (unsharp mask) | Text or details look soft |
| Noise reduction | Smooths grain while keeping strong edges | Night or phone-zoom photos look grainy |
| Enlarge 2× / 4× | Makes the picture bigger with smooth scaling, then cleans and sharpens it | You need more pixels for printing or a larger display |
Good to know
- Privacy. Your photo never leaves your device. The saved copy also drops hidden camera data (EXIF), such as location.
- Honest limits. This is not an AI tool. It improves tone, colour and sharpness, but it cannot recover detail that the camera never captured. A very blurred or tiny photo will look better, not like a new photo.
- Large images. The output is limited to about 24 megapixels (16 on iPhone and iPad) so it works in every browser. If 4× would be bigger, the tool uses the largest size that fits and tells you.
- Preview. The preview is a smaller copy for speed. The download is processed at full size, so sharpening can look slightly stronger in the saved file.
- Not supported: animated GIF and HEIC (iPhone) files. On iPhone, choose Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible to save photos as JPG.
Frequently asked questions
How do I improve the quality of a photo online for free?
Add the photo above. Auto Enhance corrects brightness, contrast and colour and adds light sharpening. Compare before and after, adjust a slider if needed and download. There is no sign-up, watermark or limit on use.
Can this tool make a blurry photo clear?
It can make a slightly soft photo look crisper with Sharpen and better contrast. It cannot rebuild detail in a badly blurred or out-of-focus photo; no normal editor can. Use a moderate Sharpen value, as too much creates white halos around edges.
Does upscaling to 2× or 4× make the photo HD?
It doubles or quadruples the number of pixels using smooth scaling and then sharpens the result, which looks better than simple stretching. It does not invent new detail, so a small photo enlarged 4× will still look soft when viewed at full size.
Are my photos uploaded or stored?
No. All processing runs inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to ToolsRiver or anyone else, and the photo is gone when you close the page.
Which format should I download?
JPG is best for normal photos and works everywhere. PNG keeps every pixel but makes big files. WebP gives smaller files for websites. Transparent PNGs saved as JPG get a white background.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. It works in current Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on phones and computers. A 4× enlargement of a large photo can take several seconds on an older phone.

About this tool. Image Enhancer uses your browser's canvas to adjust tone curves, colour balance and saturation, an edge-aware noise filter and an unsharp-mask sharpener. We tested it with dark, hazy, colour-cast, grainy and text photos, transparent PNGs, very small and very large images, 2× and 4× enlargement and all three output formats. Results depend on the original photo.
